Even as the ink drys on this edition of The Clarkston News, the Wolves? run of good fortune may have come to an end at the hands of Avondale, the number one ranked team in the state, who along with their lofty ranking boast a 13-0 record. Though the Wolves and the Yellowjackets David and Goliath matchup on Oct. 18 finished too late for this edition of The Clarkston News, Wasilk was optimistic about the outcome, win or lose.
‘What an opportunity we have. How many teams have the opportunity to play the No. 1 team in the state and possibly beat them,? said Wasilk.
After beginning the season 1-3, Clarkston has gone 7-2, the only losses being to No. 3 Southfield Lathrup on Sept. 29 and West Bloomfield on Sept. 22, who is an honorable mention in the Oct. 11 AP poll. Wasilk was happy with the way his team competed against Lathrup and West Bloomfield and thinks playing in the tough OAA Division I will help Clarkston down the road.
‘The girls feel pretty good with how they’ve played. (Playing top teams) has been a positive thing,? said Wasilk.
Earlier in the week, Clarkston won a tough league game 53-47 at Troy Athens on Oct. 11. Sophomore Jennifer Johnston poured in 22 points in the victory and sophomore Taylor Daugherty added 12.
Next up for Clarkston on the hardwood is Rochester at home. The Wolves defeated the Falcons 47-38 on the road on Sept. 8. Waterford Kettering comes calling to the CHS gym on Oct. 25, also looking for revenge after losing to Clarkston 47-37 on Sept. 15.
