An Orion Township girl was found safe after the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office called out several teams to search for the girl after her parents reported her missing.
Deputies went to a home on Hampton Woods at 9:24 a.m. Nov. 20 after getting a report that a 16-year-old girl was missing and possibly “suicidal,” according to an incident report from Undersheriff Mike McCabe’s office.
The girl’s parents told deputies that when they woke up that morning their daughter was not at home, and they found a note from their daughter saying that she “can’t take it anymore.”
The girl reportedly suffers from a mental illness, according to the incident report.
A sheriff’s office K-9 unit began trying to track the girl.
The OCSO Search and Rescue Team, Tactical Air Support Team and Aviation Unit were also activated and joined in the search.
Deputies found the girl at a local restaurant having breakfast with friends.
The girl was returned to her parents, who declined to send her to a hospital for a mental health evaluation, the incident report stated. – J.N.
