It took almost 50 minutes and 12 shots, but the Clarkston soccer team finally found the net against Brandon.
A cross by junior Alex Wilson set up Zech Moore for a goal to put the Wolves into a lead they would not relinquish, as they went on to win on Senior Night, 2-0, on Oct. 14.
‘When I got the ball, I had no doubt I was going to score,? said Moore, a senior. ‘It was extra special to score on Senior Night, and I wanted to give back to the team.?
Wolves Coach Adam Bican was equally thrilled with the goal, as he saw it as the culmination for lots of hard work for Moore. ‘Zech Moore is the best teammate; he really works hard all the time, so it was really special for him to score tonight.?
The Wolves dominated the play all game, but couldn’t capitalize in the first half, despite 11 shots and four corner kicks. Perhaps their best opportunity came with 30:20 left in the half, when a Brandon defender was just able to deflect a Justin Strohschein shot, setting up a corner kick. But the Wolves failed to capitalize, and went into the half tied 0-0.
‘We had opportunities that we didn’t capitalize on,? said Bican of the first half, ‘but we didn’t get frustrated and kept our composure.?
It didn’t take long for Clarkston to get going after halftime, though, as Moore struck with 32:02 left. They had another opportunity minutes later, but this time they were stifled twice from inside of twelve yards by Brandon goalkeeper Gregory Lanthier. Sophomore Garrett Gotaas added an insurance goal with 10:54 to play, off a free kick by junior Jarrett Kersten.
‘Overall we played well tonight,? said Bican, ‘I thought we came out with an extra level of intensity, especially after halftime.?
