Senior mourned by LOHS

Just days before graduation, many students at Lake Orion High School are mourning the loss of a friend described by many as ‘involved,? ‘talented,? and ‘personable.?
Jonathan Robert Costigan, 18, was found at a friend’s home on Silver Maple Lane Saturday morning.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, first responders attempted to resuscitate Costigan and he was transported to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A senior at LOHS, Costigan was a star on both the varsity hockey and lacrosse teams.
‘It’s really a tragedy,? Athletic Director Bill Reiss said. ‘He had a bright future.?
Many of Costigan’s friends are taking exams this week in preparation for Friday’s graduation ceremony. District Superintendent Christine Lehman credited the staff at the high school for helping the students get through a difficult time.
‘They set up opportunities for students to talk with our staff if need be,? she said of the school’s Crisis Team, which consists mainly of counselors and administrators.
‘In situations like this in our community, we’re very fortunate to have our families and faith groups and other community organizations that reach out,? Lehman added.
She encouraged parents to attend services, scheduled for today, with their students in order to help understand their grieving process.
According to the OCSD report, Costigan allegedly stayed the night at his friend’s home after the friend’s parents discovered that a group of teens had been drinking.
