Send off to summer

Labor Day, a symbolic end of summertime, gave kids and adults one last chance for fun the day before school was called back to session.
Sponsored by the Clarkston Rotary, the parade featured about 40 participants marching through downtown streets waving to spectators’some bearing treats on Sept., 2.
The National Anthem kicked off the parade sang by the voice of Detroit Red Wings, Karen Newman. Clarkston’s American Legion Post 63 presented a 21-gun salute after Newman sang.
Dale Ryan, the voice of The Clarkston Wolves, commanded the microphone and introduced organizations, clubs, sports groups and authority figures as they strolled down city streets.
During the event, the Rotary announced upcoming community events and told the crowd about their 73 years working in the community. ‘The Clarkston Rotary supports many projects and scholarships which benefit the community,? said Ryan.
A few Rotary projects include sponsoring and donating to many local causes and international projects which includes helping to eradicate polio, providing clean drinking water to remote areas of the world and purchasing and providing Shelter Boxes to disaster victims.
Other highlights of the parade included Oakland County Commissioner Tom Middleton passing out pint size pumpkins raised in Brandon Township on the Middleton Farm.
Rotary sent a special thank you to Clarkston Auto Body, Jim Tedder Productions, City of the Village of Clarkston, Oakland County Sheriff Department, Rotary President Joel Delong, Rotarians and their friends and family that helped with the parade, The Clarkston News and everyone who came to watch.
