The Oxford Cross Country team competed in the Sept. 6 West Bloomfield/Brother Rice Invitational and had three female runners earn medals.
Both the boys and girls cross country teams competed in Division 1 of the race.
For the girls, who finished sixth out of 13 overall schools in their division, the top three finished as follows: Shannon Seeley (medal), 12th with a time of 21 minutes and 42 seconds; Taylor Dewey (medal), 23rd, 23:32; Kate Wolanin (medal), 26th, 22:37; and Jillian Walker, a freshman, narrowly missed a medal by finishing 46th with a time of 23:50.
For the boys, they finished 11th out of 12 in their division. The top finishers were: Dylan Smith, 42nd, 19:25; Chase Tucker, 43rd, 19:26; and Eric Joergen 49th , 19:36
Other Wildcat cross country runners included Megan Feeley, Mallory Skilling, and Jennifer Taraski for the girls and Doug Chowanic, Alec Smith, Brent Womble, and Shane Kerbelis for the boys.
Oxford coach Ray Sutherland said he was pleased with what turned out to be this team’s first real invitational.
‘I was pleased, especially with younger runners.? he said. ‘There were a few other individuals who didn’t place high (but) I was really pleased with their effort. The girls put forth great effort.?
He added: ‘We’re very, very young. Getting experience is a big thing. We need to keep a great attitude and continue to improve like they have been all summer.?
On September 9, the team competed against Holly and Fenton.
