If you’ve traveled down the Polly Ann Trail recently, you might’ve noticed a new addition to the historical trail.
Thanks to Max Hock, of Oxford and Troop 186, there are eight wooden map boxes and three donation poles scattered throughout the trail.
After two and a half years of preparation, the 16-year-old Lake Orion High School student finished his Eagle Scout project mid-July.
Hock submitted requests to different parks in the area for project ideas and the Polly Ann Trail Committe was the first to respond.
‘I had to present the project to my troop, then I had to go through the Boy Scouts counsel and then it got passed through the Polly Ann Trail (Management Council),? he said.
With the help of a $500 donation from Sam’s Club and donated wood from the Lake Orion Lumber Company, Hock finished his project.
Maps for the boxes are being made by Lois Golden, manager for the Polly Ann Trail.
Hock joined the Cub Scouts in first grade and only has two more merit badges to get before he can become an Eagle Scout.
‘It’s probably the biggest thing I’ll do in my life before college, so it’ll sum up all that I’ve been working for since first grade,? he said.
Hock said the only advice he can give to any other Boy Scouts working on their Eagle project is to ‘stick with it.?
