Goodrich-District students were on soft-lockdown Tuesday afternoon after receiving notification a parolee escaped from a work detail at Thumb Correctional Facility in Lapeer.
During soft lock-down students remain inside and access to the building is restricted.
The district was notified at about 2:15 p.m. after Thumb Correctional Facility officials reported Darrell Allen Stallard, 31, walked away from the prison Tuesday morning while mowing the lawn at the facility.
He was under the supervision of the Michigan Department of Corrections’Tuscola Residential Reentry Program when he walked away.
Stallard, 31, had violated his parole and was living at a secure residential facility in Caro. He was taken to the Lapeer prison to help mow the lawn.
Stallard was serving 11-25 years for armed robbery out of St. Joseph County and had less than a month to serve.
According to Michigan State Police reports he dropped his prison clothing in a wooded area and walked in a northerly direction until he used a local citizen’s cell phone, after stating his car broke down and he needed to call for a ride. He was picked up by an unidentified associate in a teal-colored pickup.
Stallard is a white male, 5-11, 165 pounds, from near the Michigan-Indiana border. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Michigan State Police’Lapeer Regional Post, 810-664-2905.
