Davison Twp.-At 6:45 a.m., Jan. 6, Davison Township police officers were dispatched to the 7400 block of East Bristol Road just west of Irish Road for a report of a school bus accident.
According to police reports, the Goodrich Schools bus number 3 was stopped to pick up students when a pickup truck driven by a 35-year-old Burton man rear-ended the bus. There were a total of 13 students from the high school and middle school on the bus at the time. One female student was injured in the crash. She was treated and released from a local medical facility. The driver fled the scene on foot and at press time was still at large. Parents were notified by the district following the crash. Students on board the bus were transported to the high school for further evaluation and parents were contacted.
‘We are thankful there appears to be no serious or life-threatening injuries to our students or the bus driver,? said Michelle Imbrunone, Goodrich Schools superintendent.
‘The bus driver reported she did have the red flashers on at the time of the crash. The driver saw in the rearview mirror that a vehicle was approaching the rear of the bus and it appeared the it was not going to stop. At that time she told the kids to hang on, they were going to be hit.?
Imbrunone said the school bus, which can hold about 70 passengers, had fewer students because it was early in the route.
According to news sources, the driver of the pick up truck pushed the school bus about 100 feet and had to be helped from the truck.
