School board takes aim at key contracts

Brandon Twp.-The Brandon School Board approved a resolution to consider non-renewal of both the athletic director’s contract and community education director’s contract at the Monday meeting. A final vote will be on the agenda at the April school board meeting.
If the board approves the measue, June Wuopio, community education director and Larry Lamphere, athletic director contracts will end on June 30.
The board of trustees voted 5-0 to consider non-renewal of Lamphere’s contract and 4-1 to consider non-renewal of Wupio’s contract, with trustee D’Anna Keeble voting no. School board trustees, Mark Mahaffy and Gina Muzzarelli were absent at Monday’s meeting.
While both contracts are now under consideration for non-renewal, Tom Miller, Brandon Superintendent says the contracts may end due to different reasons.
In the case of the Athletic Director Larry Lamphere, the position will be changed to part-time and combined with additional responsiblities as assitant high school principal.
‘We currently have the same high school administration for 1,235 students as we did for about 700 students a few years ago,? said Miller. ‘The new position will direct 50 percent of the workload to assitant principal and the other 50 percent as athletic director. It’s not uncommon for a district our size to have two assitiant principals.?
