It looks like Oxford Superintendent Dr. William Skilling is sticking around for a few more years.
At the Board of Education meeting on Monday, June 20, the board voted 6-0 to extend Skilling’s contract by two additional years until June 30, 2016.
Treasurer Doug Myer was not present at the vote.
‘I want to say thank you for the trust in me and your support, and I don’t take it lightly,? Skilling said. ‘I take it very personally and I will do the very best I can to continue to honor that trust and help Oxford become the premiere school district that we set out for it to be.?
Board president Colleen Schultz shared a written statement she prepared thanking Skilling for his leadership and vision.
‘By any objective measure, Oxford Schools is doing incredibly well, and this does not happen by accident,? Schultz said. ‘It started four years ago when our community and staff came together to develop a strategic plan and this is a tribute to every single one of our employees and community members.?
‘It is due to the leadership of our superintendent that we have been able to create a vision for our students. Because of your vision Bill, it is important to this board that we extend your contract for two years,? she said.
‘On behalf of the Board of Education, thank you for your hard work, dedication and leadership of Oxford Schools,? she added.
Trustee Robert Martin said he was glad Skilling was going to be around the district long enough to see his initiatives come to fruition and oversee them.
Trustee Kim Shumaker praised Skilling for validating her reasons for moving to Oxford. She said what the district has is ‘real,? not just a ‘facade.?
Shumaker credited Skilling and his staff for putting Oxford in a ‘better financial situation than a lot of districts? and for ‘adding programming? like the on-line virtual school.
