Lake Orion School Board members were on the receiving end of kudos from school administrators, staff, students and community members last Wednesday.
The kind words directed their way were shared in conjunction with School Board Recognition Month.
Each January, school districts across the state acknowledge board members for their selfless commitment to the education of young people.
Those showered with gifts, t-shirts, posters and other items at the Jan. 10 board meeting were: Leeann Bartley, board president: Bob Gritzinger, vice president; Tina Peterson, secretary; Mary Jo Burchart, treasurer; and trustees Janet Wolverton, Bill Walters and Jim Weidman.
‘This is a fantastic school district and it all starts right at the top,? said Supt. Christine Lehman, directing her comments to the board. ‘You’re the tops.?
Lehman added that much of the district’s educational success and progress has been the direct result of the hard work of the current and past school boards.
‘Boards of education dedicate many hours of work not often seen by the general public,? said Lehman. ‘They attend classes to become more effective board members. They participate in day and evening activities at the schools, take part in charity and academic events, and in board workshops.
‘The climate and attitude of the Lake Orion school district is a reflection of the time and energy these individuals put into their duties as school board members.?
The sentiment was shared by high school student Lauren Fosmoen, who offered a few complimentary words before raising a sign honoring the board on behalf of the Lake Orion High School Student Leadership Class.
