Brandon was all set to make their Homecoming football game a positive memory.
Unfortunately for the Blackhawks, the Fenton Tigers came back from a 27-14 halftime deficit to defeat the Blackhawks 29-27. The Tigers earned a safety in the closing moments of the game to break a tie and give them their first win of the year.
Fenton is now 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the Flint Metro League, while Brandon dropped to 1-6 and 1-5.
After the Tigers took command of the game early with two first-quarter touchdowns, the Blackhawks came back later in the first quarter with a 17-yard touchdown run by Josh Tolan, trimming the Tigers? lead to 14-7
In the second quarter, Josh Polasek came up big for the Blackhawks, scoring two touchdowns, one from three yards out and the other from 12 yards out, as Brandon was in firm control of the game heading into halftime.
However, the Tigers slowly made their way back into the game in the second half, as Miles Sullivan caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kyle Hamilton in the third quarter to cut the Brandon lead to 27-20.
Brad Johnson followed up with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Hamilton in the fourth quarter, tying the contest at 27 and setting the stage for the Tigers? last-minute score.
After their final scheduled home game of the season Oct. 13 against Lapeer East, the Blackhawks conclude the 2006 regular season with an Oct. 20 game against Swartz Creek.
The Dragons are currently 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the Flint Metro League following a 27-14 loss to Lapeer West in a Oct. 6 game. This is Swartz Creek’s first year back in the Flint Metro League after having competed in the Big Nine Conference since 1976; the Dragons were previously in the Flint Metro League from 1968-75.
