‘Lake Orion men’s cross country team put together a good day of racing,? said Coach Stan Ford of his team at the 50th Annual Oakland County Cross Country Championships.
‘The team put together their best effort so far this season,? he said.
The team finished in third place out of the over 40 teams represented.
Three members of the team earned individual medals with senior Sean Bone in second place, senior Nathan Ziolko in ninth place, and freshman T.J. Carey in 18th place. Junior Jake Lauka, senior Jeff Slavick, sophomore Ryan Singles, and junior Brad Cross rounded out the Dragon team.
Oct. 16, Lake Orion placed first of 12 at Oxford Invitational with 51 points.
Wednesday, Oct. 22, the team had a one point victory over league-leading Troy at the O.A.A. Division I League Meet.
All-league honors went to Sean Bone (third), Nathan Ziolko (fourth), T.J. Carey (eighth) and Jake Lauka (15th). Jeff Slavick, Ryan Singles, Brad Cross, and Devon Meadows completed the winning line-up for the winning Dragons.
‘We went into the league meet having lost to Troy in our first two Jamborees,? said Ford, ‘but we were able to beat Troy at the Oakland County Meet, so we were hopeful.?
Bone, the team’s number one runner, had been a little under the weather, but the rest were running well, according to the coach.
‘After the first three runners from Troy, and our first three runners had come in, I thought Troy had won,? Ford said. ‘But Jake Lauka and Jeff Slavick had great races and made up the difference.?
