Atlas Twp. – Most of this year’s road work has been completed in Atlas Township, and should come in under budget, says township supervisor Paul Amman.
In preliminary budget calculations, $200,000 was set aside to ditch and add limestone to portions of Coolidge and Henderson roads.
Due to complaints and heavier traffic, Ridge Road’originally scheduled for work in 2007’was added to the schedule, bringing the road budget to $275,000.
The work on Henderson Road is partially completed.
‘Part of Henderson is very narrow, more like a cow path,? said Amman.
With both ends of Henderson and Coolidge fixed, the middle of Henderson Road can be shut down while hillsides along the constricted roadway are cut into to widen the road base.
The work is ahead of schedule, Amman said, and ditching has already begun for next year’s Horton Road project.
Amman credits the Genesee County Road Commission for the speedy work.
‘I’m always kicking them in the pants, so I have to give them credit,? he said.
