After a shaky opening game, the Brandon baseball team bounced back and improved its play.
The end result is a winning record for the Blackhawks heading into the Easter break. In Brandon’s most recent contest, senior Roy Reynolds led the Blackhawks to a 12-3 win against host Flint Powers April 5.
Reynolds struck out seven and allowed five hits as Brandon improved to 3-1 on the young season.
Junior Mark Butzu drove in three runs for the Blackhawks, while sophomore Andrew Harding had two hits and two RBI
After their first-game setback, the Blackhawks rebounded with a doubleheader sweep of host Stoney Creek April 3.
Brandon won the opener 11-2 and the nightcap 6-5, improving to 2-1 on the season.
In the opening game, Brandon senior Derrick Kratt earned the win on the mound and helped the team’s cause with two hits.
Butzu notched the win for Brandon in the second game, while Harding had two hits for the Blakchawks.
The Blackhawks were undone by shaky defense in their April 1 opener against Kearsley. Although Brandon forced extra innings, Kearsley ultimately won the game 7-6 in eight innings, as Darrin Allie scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
Brandon committed five errors in the third inning, leading to four unearned runs by Kearsley. The Blackhawks forced extra innings when Harding reached on a single and senior Joel Pappas drove him home, capping off a four-run rally.
