Brandon Twp – Creating poetry with pottery has been a passion for Brandon Township resident Sue Kolb for more than 20 years.
‘It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years,? she quipped.
Married to husband Joe Wheeler, Kolb is celebrating 20 years of molding her craft in Ortonville by having an anniversary exhibit, offering a colorful mixture of her handcrafted creations designed to display or use in your home or yard.
The celebration will be held over two weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting June 26-27 and July 3-4.
Nestled in a setting of red pines and beautiful gardens, viewers can enjoy the art fair setting of pottery and twig furniture.
As a psychologist, Kolb finds little time for her pottery passion and has decreased the number of exhibits to two per year, but still finds a haven in her handiwork designing one of a kind sculptural pieces to a variety of functional wares for the home.
‘It’s a real passion of mine and I can’t stop,? Kolb said as she points to numerous pieces crowding the corners and walls of her studio gallery.
Her 20 year passion for bringing earthen materials to life ignited a drive to marry clay and willow, encouraging Kolb to create tile mosaic adorned twig furniture, made from materials harvested from the willow and hardwood trees from the 14 acre forest surrounding her home, that are then coaxed, bent and woven into chairs, tables, and benches.
‘I live and breathe the forest and love to combine twig and clay,? Kolb said.
Collectors will find garden paths leading to an oasis of pines speckled with hundreds of pots, mugs, bowls, and hand-crafted tiles, with hand spun yarns from the goats Kolb has raised at her forest home.
