John Krug, a member of the Oxford American Legion Post sponsored Boy Scout Troop 108, will be developing and planting a vegetable garden at the Saint Augustine’s monastery as his community service project to earn Eagle Scout rank.
In order to help pay for the materials and a fence that will enclose the vegetable garden, Red Knapp’s American Grill will be donating 15-percent of their dinner business on Wednesday, June 18.
‘Saint Augustine’s monastery once had a vegetable garden but it was not enclosed with a fence, so the wildlife consumed most of it,? Krug said, requesting the public’s help at the dinner. ‘This new garden, which I will provide, will be enclosed with a six-foot high chain-link fence.?
Financial support for this project is also being provided by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
The Saint Augustine’s monastery is located on E. Drahner Road, two-and-a-half miles east of Lapeer Road. It is the only Lutheran monastery in the United States.
