Kickers prepare for a busy week getting deeper into their OAA Red league play.
As the Boys Varsity Soccer team goes into this week against Stoney Creek, Lake Orion, and Rochester, they will take the lessons learned throughout the weeks with them, even from their eighth shut-out game from Sept. 15 against Auburn Hills Avondale, 3-0.
Alex Wilson scored quickly to put the boys on the board and Dave Thomas added another with less than three minutes remaining in the first half.
‘Avondale had a few chances in the second half, but goalie Andrew Campbell cleaned up wherever he needed to,? said Coach Adam Bican.
Garret Gotaas finished the game with the final goal and Campbell saved five shots on goal.
‘There is some stuff we need to work on, but being midway through the season I think we are making very good progress,? said Bican.
He admitted the team was frustrated at times when it seemed like the game wasn’t going their way.
‘It’s a lesson they need to take from it – that not everything goes your way all the time and to just fight through it,? he said. ‘When they keep working harder and focusing harder – things work out.
Besides the win, the boys were treated to another bonus – support from soccer players throughout the community.
‘It was such a great time for the youth of Clarkston and to show their support for the high school soccer teams,? said Bican. ‘It was fantastic and a great family night.?
The boys played Stoney Creek on Tuesday, face cross town rivals Lake Orion on Thursday and Rochester on Friday.
‘It’s going to be a tough week for us,? Bican said. ‘It will be nice to play all three teams and it will show us where we stand in the league.?
The Wolves go into the last two games with home turf advantage and are ready to take them on.
‘Lake Orion may have some of the top talent anywhere in Reed Losee and Derek Schrauben,? said Bican. ‘The boys will be up for it and we love playing at home. The boys enjoy playing in front of their hometown fans and it gives them a boost playing at home.?
The boys saw Rochester only a few weeks ago and beat them in a hard-fought match – which Clarkston won, 1-0.
‘This one will probably be even closer,? said Bican.
The boys are 4-0-1 in OAA Red and 8-2-1 overall.
‘We are a little over the half way point,? added Bican. ‘We are really looking forward to seeing how this week goes.?
JV plays at 5:30 p.m. and varsity follows.
