Congratulations to the Oxford High School Quiz Bowl Varsity team for their second place win in the Genesee Academic League.
The team competed bi-weekly from October to December against various schools like Flushing, Swartz Creek and Clio.
They also competed on a Quiz Bowl television show called ‘High School Challenge? on WFUM (Channel 28) where they defeated Carman Ainsworth.
Although they didn’t defeat North Branch on the Jan. 22 show, they’re still excited about the team’s skills and hope to make it to at least the quarter finals next year.
Member Olivia Hamilton said Quiz Bowl has been beneficial to her education because it helped her to ‘do a math problem in five seconds.?
Teammate Dave Schlueter said it’s just plain ‘fun.?
Quiz Bowl coach Brian Agar said OHS has been in the league about 25 years and participating on the team helps students prepare for tests like the ACT or SAT.
They spend Tuesday afternoons practicing their skills.
‘We just go over hundreds and hundreds of questions,? Agar said.
Although the Quiz Bowl competitive season has been cut back due to budget constraints, Agar said they’re always looking for people to join in on the fun for next year’s team.
