A public hearing to discuss moving the regular school election date from May to November will be conducted by the Oxford Board of Education 6 p.m. Monday, July 9.
Board President Colleen Schultz said the board has been thinking about moving school elections to the fall for a while because it would be ‘the fiscally responsible? thing to do.
Not only would it save tax money, it would also boost voter turnout, according to Schultz. Turnout would be larger in November because that’s when general elections are traditionally held for local, state and national offices.
School board elections and millage questions could simply be added to the general election ballot.
The Oxford School Board has tentatively chosen the new election date to be in November every year.
If the board fails to approve this tentative election date, the regular elections will continue to take place in May.
The public hearing will be held at the Board of Education offices (105 Pontiac Street). Residents are more than welcome to voice their thoughts and concerns.
