Public hearing set for proposed nature park

If you’re interested in having your voice heard regarding the proposed 80-acre Lake George Nature Park project in Addison Township, now’s your chance.
A public hearing from the Addison Twp. Parks and Creation Committee will take place on Monday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the township complex (1440 Rochester Rd., Leonard).
The hearing will establish whether or not the public would like the committee to move forward in writing a grant for the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to acquire the property located north of Leonard Road and between Haven and Milstan roads.
A majority of the property, including Lake George and all the wetlands, will be permanently protected by a conservation easement held by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, while the natural resources within the area will be maintained by the Oakland Land Conservancy (OLC).
Copies of the draft grant application will be available for the public beginning Monday, Feb. 25 at the township complex. Written comments regarding the grant application may be directed to the Addison Twp. Parks and Recreation Committee Chairperson (1440 Rochester Rd., Leonard, MI 48367).
The OLC will conduct an ecological tour of the property on Saturday, March 1 beginning at 10:30 a.m. To register for the tour, please contact them at (248) 601-2816. Dress warmly and appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy, waterproof shoes or boots.
