This year’s first day of school at Springfield Plains and Clarkston Elementary began with inspirational messages to students.
“Good morning, Springfield Plains,” said Interim Principal Matt Gifford. “You are all empowered to learn, to think and to lead. Your story of learning begins today. You are the author of your book. Your teachers and I are here to help you write your story.
‘Your school year is before you. As you think about your school year, consider this quote by Walt Disney, ‘You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality,?? Gifford told students.
He also created a school wide assembly to give the students a message about leadership and give them a pep talk to begin the year.
“We talked about now is the time to be awesome,” Gifford added. “We want our student to unleash their leadership potential. ‘How you have to be a leader and be awesome??”
During the assembly student council members, elected last year, were recognized by staff and spoke about leadership.
Clarkston Elementary Principal Brian Adams started the year with positive messages and an inspirational assembly too.
‘As always at Clarkston Elementary, relationships will be our foundation This year, the staff will use our relationships to empower you to be thoughtful leaders who connect with the world around you,” Adams said on the first day.
“We believe each of you has the ability to be a leader who thinks deeply about life and learning. We want to help you find ways to be powerful in your world, so it is our goal to help you find your voice and inspire others to find theirs.”
Throughout the first week, Adams said school staff spoke about a process called The Leader in Me.
“We made announcements about the seven habits,” said Adams.
At the end of the first week of school on Friday, Adams showed videos and spoke to students during an assembly about the ?7 Habits of Highly Effective Students.? Adams created a presentation using videos explaining to student what the seven habits mean, and tips on how to achieve them.
Students were excited and engaged during the presentation and the room was full of students responding to various videos in the assembly as well as Adams? message.
