Two men from Pontiac were arraigned in the 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills on Friday for charges of retail fraud from the Oxford Twp. Meijer on December 8.
According to the Oakland County
Sheriff’s report a store manager saw Joseph Michael Wynder, 23, allegedly stuffing a stolen duffel bag full of DVD’s around 4 a.m.
When Wynder saw the manager watching him, he allegedly took off running with the bag to a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Demetrius Eugene Hill.
The manager thought the suspect was still in the store and didn’t see him run outside and get into a car.
The men made it to Clarkston and Joslyn Roads before Sgt. Selling, of Orion sheriff’s substation, conducted a traffic stop.
Detective John Robertson of the Oxford sheriff’s substation said ‘it was just a fluke of good police work? that Sgt. Selling pulled them over.
‘Seeing that they had a bag with DVDs ? they were suspicious,? he said.
Wynder admitted to the sergeant that he took the items from the store and both men were arrested.
Det. Robertson said the men both ‘have lengthy (criminal) histories? and stole about $1,000 worth of DVDs, including Mr. and Mrs. Smith, War of the Worlds and Polar Express, just to name a few.
Both men are currently lodged in the Oakland County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond. Should they post bond, it carries the condition that they do not speak to one another or return to the Oxford store. A preliminary exam is set for today at the 52-3.
