It is time to treat yourself, and the Pink and Pampered event at McLaren Cancer Institute Clarkston is the place to go, Oct. 18, 5-8 p.m.
“It is anything pampering,” Mary Melega smiled. “In the past years we had had hair feathers. This year we will have hair crystals.”
Pampering services include manicures, eyebrow waxing, foot massages, back massages, neck massages, hair chalking, henna tattoos. Each service is $10 each.
The event started four years ago at the Independence Township Senior Center Carriage House. Since then it has grown to something bigger, and they moved it to McLaren Cancer Institute in Clarkston so they could expand.
“We are very thankful for the space and being able to use the space,” Melega said.
From the beginning Melega has worked with Carrie Bishop and the McLaren Breast Center, who sponsors the annual event.
“We picked October because it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” Bishop explained. “It is a nice reminder to take care of themselves, get their mammograms and come to see us at the McLaren Breast Center.”
The vendors are donating 20 percent per person back to the breast center, which will go towards the transportation services for patients traveling to and from the center.
Returning this year is the recycled purse sale and the amount of purses have been accumulating with purses of every size and color for the picking.
“The purses are really big,” said Melega. “It is a huge draw because it is a girly thing.”
“Youn can’t beat it,” Bishop smiled. “I got a great purse for $10 last year.”
They have added a recycled platter and bowl sale to this year’s event.
“Anyone can donate a platter or bowl they may have at their house they are not using,” said Bishop. “We will resale them.”
Also for sale will be cards, candles and heat rice pads.
They will also have an artist who will paint during the event. Melega explained the pieces are female orientated pop art.
The Pink and Pampered event will also have Margo, the psychic bone reader.
“She reads your bones,” Bishop said. “She tells you a little bit about yourself.”
If weather permits, they will have a tour through their healing garden.
The event will have beverages and hors d’oeuvres. Pita Way, Caribou Coffee and Klever Kreations have donated food for the event.
“This is truly a community event,” Bishop added. “It’s tying the whole community in and having the support of the community is great.”
Bishop added Melega and her team of volunteers are phenomenal.
“They work very hard on this event in order to provide it to the community and for us,” she said. “We are blessed to have their friendship and their partnership. McLaren is very thankful and proud to be in the community and work with the Independence Township Senior Center and Adult Activity Center.”
Admission is free and anyone is invited. McLaren Cancer Institute is located on 5680 Bow Pointe Drive, off Sashabaw Road.
“Join us for a fun, pampering evening,” Bishop smiled.
