Pfaff lighting it up from long distance for Martians

Goodrich sophomore Nykole Pfaff has emerged as the girls basketball team’s most consistent scoring threat in recent weeks.
That was evident once again Nov. 4, as the Martians defeated host Byron 62-43, improving to 14-3 overall and 12-1 in the Genesee Area Conference Red Division. Goodrich took command of the game with a 15-5 second quarter run that gave them a 31-17 lead at the half.
Pfaff scored 22 points and connected on three shots from three-point range in the win. Seniors Shannon Harbin and Jacci Brothers added 10 apiece for the Martians.
‘We’re really pleased with the way she’s been playing,? Goodrich coach Jason Gray said of Pfaff. ‘She can shoot. If you leave her open, you’re going to pay.?
The Martians wrapped up the outright GAC Red championship Oct. 30 with a 57-40 win against host Lake Fenton.
Goodrich never trailed in the contest. Pfaff led all scorers with 18 points for the Martians, while Harbin added eight.
With the state playoffs in sight, Gray is looking to fine-tune the Martians for the postseason.
‘We can always use improvement defensively, and we’re trying to get more points by running the floor for baskets,? he said.
The Martians return to action when they host LakeVille Nov. 11.
