A group of citizens attended a June 8 Clarkston City Council meeting to inform city officials they were gathering signatures to stop construction plans for improvements to city hall and the addition of a DPW garage.
“We do not believe the city can afford this expense, and funds would be better used to continue to maintain the roads, sidewalks, trees, and provide other basic services,” the petition states.
The three proposed plans, which include $23,000 in already approved architectural costs, carry a price tag ranging from $330,000 to $568,000, depending on the scope of the expansion. At a subsequent meeting, the first cut of the fiscal year 2016 budget assumed a cost of $400,000.
A representative from Milzow Building Company submitted documents regarding a storage garage built in Waterford for an irrigation company for $110,000.
“I think it would serve your purpose for additional storage for equipment and files. This has all heating, plumbing, insulation and lighting,” said owner Forest Milzow,
Citizens continue to collect signatures to present to council at a future meeting.
