Pennies for Tsunami victims

Students at Blanche Sims Elementary School have a challenge: Bring in as many pennies as possible to benefit the victims of the Tsunami in Asia in the next two weeks. The students kicked off the project on Jan. 10, and will be dropping off their pennies at the collection jugs during their lunch hours. The grade with the most pennies in their jug will get their photo in the newspaper. The collection jugs were the idea of the student council, and were made by the PTO. The students can make other grades lose pennies by putting other change, like nickels and dimes, in their jugs. The students plan to donate part of their funds to Channel 4’s ‘Gift to Galle? rebuilding project, and part to Unicef. Pictured here is second-grader Jenna Losensky putting in her pennies.
