This weekend marks another busy weekend in the Lake Orion community.
On Saturday, the Village of Lake Orion Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee is hosting a Parks Celebration Day. The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. in Green’s Park.
According to council member Michael Toth, the celebration is free and open to anybody who wishes to attend. There will be food from local vendors, children’s games and prizes, swimming and free t-shirts to the first 50 kids in attendance.
The Master Plan for Village Parks will also be on display.
Toth said that this is the first annual event, and a way to open up the park season.
American Legion Post 233 is hosting various events in honor of Memorial Day on Monday.
At 9 a.m., there will be a memorial ceremony in East Lawn Cemetery. In Children’s Park at 10 a.m., there will be a wreath ceremony remembering those individuals lost at sea. Beginning at 11 a.m., the Legion will be hosting a Memorial Day Parade through downtown.
The parade will start at Blanche Sims Elementary School to south on Florence to Flint Street, west of Flint to Lapeer Street, and then north on Lapeer Street to the Ehman Center. Roads will be closed to traffic during the parade.
The Lake Orion High School Band will be marching, along with various local Cub Scout packs. The Legion has also arranged antique cars and an antique fire engine to be part of the parade. The Veterans Color Guard will also be participating.
Larry Pawley, of the American Legion Post 233, said that anyone that wants to participate is welcome for the parade. They can contact him at (313)850-0663 or be present at Blanche Sims on Monday at 10:30 a.m. to march in the parade.
At 1 p.m. on Monday, there will also be a ceremony at the Orion Veterans Memorial on Lapeer Road.
