LAKE ORION — Downtown Lake Orion was filled with Dragon pride on Sunday afternoon when hundreds of people lined the streets for the annual Lake Orion High School Homecoming Parade.
The parade kicked off Homecoming Week and featured the Dragon Marching Band, the cheer, dance, football, swim and dive, hockey, cross country and volleyball teams. Several clubs, like the LOHS International Students, also participated.
The parade is not limited to the high school students, with youth football, cheer and dance taking part, and middle school and elementary students representing their schools.
Other Homecoming Week activities include the senior versus junior girls in the Powder Puff game at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Dragon Stadium. With bragging rights and Dragon pride on the line, there are no ladies in this annual battle royale.
The student activities night and class competition were on Sunday evening, the Homecoming football game is on Friday and the Homecoming Dance is on Saturday. The high school will also hold a Homecoming assembly on Friday to get everyone fired up for the big game.
The Lake Orion varsity football team takes on OAA Red rival Clarkston in the Homecoming game at 7 p.m. Friday at Dragon Stadium.
Lake Orion (4-2, 1-2 OAA Red) is coming off a 49-41 loss to West Bloomfield (3-3, 1-2 OAA Red), while Clarkston (4-2, 2-1 OAA Red) defeated Troy Athens 36-7 on Friday.
The Homecoming Parade and Homecoming Week activities (except for the football game) are organized and run by the Lake Orion High School Leadership Development Workshop students.
