Parade group starts scholarship

The Orion Area Parade Group recently announced the Mark Turpen Scholarship Fund. It was created to honor Mark Turpen, a dedicated member of OAPG and the Lake Orion community for many years.
Turpen died in 2004, leaving a legacy of community support and involvement still celebrated by OAPG. He was an attorney, a friend and family man — married to Sue for many years with sons Jeremy and Andrew living in Lake Orion.
‘Mark really helped OAPG get established with his advice, support and financial contributions in early 2003,? said Joe Geraci, OAPG vice president and co-chairman of the Orion Area Holiday Parade.
‘He always met with us offering hospitality, many times hosting meetings with his wife Sue at their beautiful home.?
‘We loved to meet with them both,? Chuck Saputo said. Saputo’s the OAPG president and co-chairman of the parade with Geraci.
Establishing the scholarship fund, will continue Turpen’s legacy to the community.
The Mark Turpen Scholarship Fund offers $1,000 annually towards college tuition in a Humanities program to successful applicants in the Lake Orion area.
Visit the OAPG website, www.oapg.org, for scholarship fund information, guidelines and to obtain application forms. The scholarship winner will be announced this September.
