The visiting Blackhawks had their chances against the Metro League-leading Lapeer West Panthers Jan. 23, but ultimately dropped a 45-40 contest.
The Blackhawks came within two points as senior Gjon Nicaj sank a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to cut the Panthers? lead to 42-40.
After West made a free throw to increase their lead to 43-40 with 10 seconds left, Brandon had a chance to send the game to overtime, but Nicaj’s three-point attempt fell short, and West’s Jason Thompson made two foul shots to seal the win.
Bobby Norman led the Panthers (6-4 overall, 4-1 league) with 11 points, while Joe Turscak led Brandon (3-7, 2-3) with 14 points. Adam Howard added 11 points for the Blackhawks, who return to action Tuesday, Feb. 3 when they travel to Fowlerville for a 7 p.m. game.
