By his record, township resident Doug Palmer (R) is the sort of resident who is involved with the direction of the community, and stays involved until the job is done.
On March 15, Palmer, who has been a township trustee for the past four years announced his intention to run for Township Treasurer in the upcoming November 2004 election.
‘I’ve been involved in making tough decisions for this township and I am confident I can do the job,? said Palmer who, as a township trustee, is no stranger to how township funds have been managed, maintained, spent, and invested.
‘As a township we are financially stable,? said Palmer, ‘We are careful about spending, and I can maintain that standard.?
As a successful independent business owner for the past 16 years, Palmer says he is not intimidated by numbers, nor the tasks of balancing budgets, and maintaining harmonious relationships with employees and residents. Palmer says he can add these experiences to the office of the township treasurer.
‘I have dealt with employees, vendors, contractors, management, financial planners, and customers,? he said adding that experience dealing with parents as a local and high school football coach, coupled with extensive experience serving on the Township Planning Commission, the Greater Ortonville Chamber of Commerce, president of the Brandon Junior Blackhawks, and a member of the Fire Authority and Brandon Recreation Board, will bring a well rounded balance to his position in serving the community.
‘I’ve seen room for improvement in that department and I want to improve it.?
‘I want to improve relationships between all the departments, to build it back up with the township,? Palmer said, complimenting the competency and knowledge of the staff. He is confident that with the knowledge already in the department, the transition of taking over as treasurer would be a smooth one.
Palmer and his wife Lisa have raised their two sons in Brandon Township for the past ten years and consider this home.
As a board member for the past four years Palmer says he has been involved in decisions for change and improvement in the community, such as the completion of the Safety Path, adding Advance Life Support to the fire department, as well as adding Fire Station 3 to the district.
