It’s an honor for any police agency to have one of their own named ‘Officer of the Year.?
Last month, not one, but two officers from the Orion Substation of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department took home that honor.
Lieutenant Bruce Naile was named Command Officer of the Year, while Randy Huston was named ‘Officer of the Year.?
The pair were honored in a May 12 ceremony in Pontiac, and Naile said it’s the first time two officers from the same substation have been honored by the OCSD.
‘It’s pretty uncommon,? he said. ‘The sheriff’s department has 1,200 employees, and there are only 30 at the Orion Substation.?
Naile has served as Lieutenant at the Orion Substation since 1992 and is in his 39th year as an officer.
‘It’s an honor towards the end of a career,? he said. ‘Most guys just work 25 years in this field.?
Naile said, however, that he has no plans to retire.
‘I just take it one day at a time,? he said.
In addition to his honor as command officer, Naile was given a Professional Excellence Citation from an incident last April, in which he assisted Auburn Hills police in a chase of a stabbing suspect.
He was presented a certificate for both achievements by Sheriff Mike Bouchard.
‘Your loyal dedication and outstanding work performance in 38 years of law enforcement is truly worthy of recognition,? the certificate read. ‘You are a true asset to law enforcement.?
Naile quickly noted that Huston’s honor was extremely deserved.
‘He’s really active with the special response team,? he said.
Huston has been an officer in Orion since 1994.
