A 45-year old female Oxford Township resident was involved in a three-vehicle accident on M-24 south of Harmon Rd. by the Palace of Auburn Hills on Saturday, March 5.
According to Auburn Hills Lt. Tom Hardesty, around 4 p.m. a 62-year-old female from Rochester Hills, driving a 2011 Mercury Sable, and the female Oxford resident, who was driving a 2005 Ford Expedition with three passengers inside, were slowing down with other traffic near the Palace when they were struck from behind by a 2000 Dodge Neon, driven by a 44 year-old male Orion Township resident.
Witnesses stated the motorist who was allegedly responsible for the accident was ‘driving erratically and with a high rate of speed,? before striking the two vehicles.
According to preliminary reports, the allegedly responsible driver struck the Mercury Sable first, then proceeded to strike the Expedition.
After the Expedition was struck, a 14-year-old male Oxford Township resident was ejected from the vehicle.
The Orion township male, along with a 27-year-old resident from Troy and the 14-year-old Oxford resident were transported to POH for medical attention. None of the injuries suffered during the accident appeared to be life-threatening.
Hardesty said alcohol is believed to be a factor concerning the allegedly responsible driver.
The investigation is ongoing and officers are waiting on the toxicology reports to come back before making an official determination on whether or not to issue charges against the responsible driver.
