Oxford Mathletes pick up Gold, Silver medals at tournament

Congratulations to the 19 Oxford elementary students who participated in the Southeast Michigan Regional Mathematics Pentathlon Tournament held at Oxford Middle School on Saturday.
Division III teams comprised of fourth and fifth-graders from Lakeville and Oxford Elementary schools spent eight hours competing against hundreds of other students from around southeast Michigan.
The Mathematics Pentathlon Tournament consists of five interactive problem-solving games that students compete with throughout the day. Approximately 800 people, including fans, attended the tournament at the middle school.
Lakeville’s team of nine were able to secure two Silver Medals for fifth-graders Ryan Fox and Ryan Myers? performances. Fourth-graders Russell Dunnagan and Jack Paruszkiewicz and fifth-grader Tyler Fox each received Honorable Mention awards.
Other Lakeville Pentathlon Team members included fourth-graders Michael DeClercq, Katelyn Ellis, Rebecca Hoffman and fifth-grader Hope McColl who all received participation awards.
The OES Pentathlon Team of 10 secured a Gold Medal by fifth-grader Michael Harris, a Silver Medal for fourth-graders Drew Sedam and Brandon Welch, and a Bronze Medal for fourth-grader Devon King.
Fifth-grader Christina Chizmadia fourth-grader Stefanie-Ann Chizmadia each received an Honorable Mention.
