After a two-week hiatus from playing, the Oxford Varsity girls basketball team came back strong Friday night, defeating Lapeer East at home 39-30.
Sophomore guard Allie Laidlaw was the leading scorer, finishing the night with 12 points.
Junior forward Jessica Raisch had six points, seven rebounds, and five blocked shots while, senior forward Kelsey Oliver had four points, five rebounds and four steals.
Although the Ladycats beat the Eagles, it seemed the score was neck and neck during each quarter, making the coaches nervous.
‘We were rusty from our long layoff and it showed, especially on the offensive end,? Coach Al Poynter said. ‘I was please that the girls continued to play hard and through their offensive woes.?
Oxford is now 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the Flint Metro League. They travel to Brandon this Friday for a 6 p.m. game.
