For the second year in a row, the Brandon/Atlas Golf Outing has raised $7,000 for the University of Michigan Trauma Burn Center.
The funds, donated by dozens of individuals and businesses participating in the event, will be used for prevention and community outreach programs, including a burn camp for children.
‘If only they (donors) could see the smiles on these kids? faces,? said Burn Center Development Events Specialist Susan Polan, who accepted the check last week.
‘Being able to get these donations is incredible. Without it, we couldn’t have camp.?
The weeklong summer camp is for burn-injured children in Michigan who range in age from 7-17. The camp offers activities such as swimming, boating and archery in a comfortable atmosphere and is in its sixth year.
The golf outing fundraiser has raised more than $70,000 since its inception 17 years ago.
‘It’s a good feeling for all of us,? said Brandon Fire Chief Bob McArthur, who noted that some of the funds raised will also go to prevention programs to keep children from being injured and purchasing smoke detectors to save lives.
