From 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m., July 19, at the Brandon Township Public Library, the Ortonville Rotary Club is hosting the Ortonville State Recreational Rangers to discuss untapped resources at the state park.
According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Ortonville Recreation Area includes 5,400 acres located in southern Lapeer and Northern Oakland counties. There is a wide range of reacreational activities available surrounded by high wooden hills at the park.
‘I will be sending a ranger out to the library to discuss a variety of recreation opportunities at the Ortonville Recreation Area,? said Todd Farrell, unit supervisor. ‘The discussion will include details about Big Fish Lake including information on public access to the boat launch. There are also several picnic shelters for the public to rent and a rustic cabin available as well. There will be discussion on a new recreation passport and a question and answer session at the end of the event.?
Horseback riding trails and an equestrian campground encompassing 15 campsites, are also available to the public. The equestrian trails offer 6.5 miles wandering through Hadley Hills.
‘We don’t provide horses though,? laughs Farrell.
The campground is on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are offered.
