Fifty-nine teams invaded Oxford High School on March 12 for the Mid-Michigan Wrestling Association finals.
The team from Orion sent 22 team members to the finals, and had five members place in the top three in their respective divisions.
The team finished 22nd overall, with 35 points.
‘Dominic Arnold has been great for us all year,? said one of the team’s coaches, Floyd Roe. ‘He went through the club season with no losses.?
Arnold was champion in the 11/12 age group at 126 pounds.
Randy Haas was the team’s other first place finisher, winning his title in one of the 7/8 age heavyweight categories.
Jake Pratt finished second in the 13/14 age, 85 pound weight class.
‘He lost the last match by only one point,? Roe noted.
A.J. Fligger and Ryan Griffin, both in the 13/14 age group, claimed third place finishes.
Fligger, in his first year with the team, wrestled at 130 pounds, while Griffin was a heavyweight.
‘To send 22 to the state finals and have five placers is pretty good,? Roe said.
