Orion Oaks Elementary School recently held their annual Fun Run fundraiser, with plans to use the proceeds to help the Orion/Oxford Boys and Girls Club as well as the Children’s Kidney Foundation, while Pine Tree Elementary School also held a Fun Run of their own.
Orion Oaks was able to raise about $16,500 in last year’s event, with children getting pledges for every lap they run around the gym during a 10-minute time period during the Fun Run. This year’s event was made festive with music, balloons, refreshments and even the appearance of Lake Orion’s own Dragon mascot.
The school will donate 10 percent of the proceeds to split between the two charities, with the rest going towards educational events for the school. The event is organized by Orion Oaks parents and run by volunteers.
Pine Tree Elementary School’s first ever Fitness Fun Run on Sept. 26 was a big success. Students in all grades collected over $16,000. The fundraiser replaced the traditional candy sales that took place each fall. Student were allowed 25 minutes to complete as many laps as possible. Kids set goals and most of them went over their goals.
