Optimists honor student of the month

Clarkston Optimists Club presented student-of-the-month honors to Pine Knob Elementary fifth grader Natalie Luba, Jan. 9.
“Natalie certainly embodies all the characteristics of the Optimists,” said Principal Jodi Yeloushan. “I never see her without a smile ? she always look at the positive.”
“She excels in and out of the classroom,” said her teacher, Kelly Mertz. “She’s a role model for other children. She looks out for others, and takes care of others who need help.”
The fifth-grader was joined by her parents, Andrea and Brian Luba, her sister Emily, grandparents Dan and Mary Ann Stahl, and her aunt Chris Genoa.
“This is the best compliment a parent can receive,” Andrea said. “We’re extremely proud of her.”
“I just want to be a good person,” said Natalie, something she learned from her mom and dad. “I was kind of surprised (to receive the award) ? I really like it.”
