Niles Olson has announced his candidacy for treasurer of Orion Township.
A life-long Orion resident, Olson said he knows Orion’s past and feels he is qualified to address the challenges now facing the community. A former five-term Oakland County Commissioner representing Orion, Olson said he knows the local community integrates into county government and how best to work with county government officials.
Olson is currently the broker/owner of Olson Group Real Estate & Appraisal, Inc. Using his experience, Olson has served seven years on the township board of appeals, assisting residents.
Olson’s other work-related experience includes being the owner of one of Orion’s premier hardware stores of yesteryear, Olson Hardware.
As manager of the former Lake Orion Secretary of States office and a retired supervisor for General Motors Central Foundry, Olson said he offers taxpayers honest and responsible government if he is elected treasurer.
Olson has encouraged Mike Gingell and Will Wilsher (currently serving as Orion Township trustees) to run for re-election as trustees.
He has also encouraged John Steimel (currently chairman of the township planning commission) and John Garlicki, as a planning commission member, to run as township trustees.
‘All of these men are honorably and responsibly serving us in various capacities,? said Olson. ‘They are all men of high personal integrity and together we would be committed to the improvement of Orion Township. Please consider supporting the five of us on Primary Election Day, Aug. 3, 2004.?
