Congratulations to Oxford High School graduate Sean McDonald for his outstanding achievements in technology from the Oakland Technical Campus (Otech) on May 20.
McDonald, 17, received the Dean’s Award for having all A’s and outstanding attendance from the Otech morning session. He was nominated by teachers for this award and also received a plaque and medal. McDonald was also on the honor roll for OHS.
McDonald attended Otech for business management and marketing technology and was certified in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and in an Internet Computing Core program.
He also learned about networking computers, internet security programs and database management. His favorite program being the A Plus computer hardware from the Computer Technology Industry Association in Illinois.
He’s been intrigued with how computers worked and has tinkered with them since he got his first computer in 1997. ‘I just went on there and had one game and I liked how the game worked and wanted to know how all of these things operated,? he said.
McDonald is planning on attending Oakland University in the fall and majoring in computer science and urges all high school students planning on getting into the computer field to attend Otech.
‘I think it’s the best idea, but they don’t really emphasize it much (in school),? he said.
His mom, Pat, said that she and her husband, James, are very proud of their son’s technological skills. ‘I’m glad he enjoyed going there and that he took advantage of all the opportunities he had to learn certifications,? she said.
McDonald said he is interested in working for either SISCO systems or for DELTA Airlines security division at Metro Airport.
