OHS essay winners celebrate what’s important to them

Congratulations to Jennifer Taraski and Chase Tucker, two Oxford High School freshman, for placing in the top ten of the Creative Communication essay contest.
The essay contest, entitled ‘Celebrating What Is Important To Me,? was given to the Honors English students in Jeremy Koch’s class this past fall.
Taraski chose to write her 250 word essay on how music influences teenagers in positive and negative ways.
‘I put that they can choose to listen to the music and take the advice to heart, or they can just change the station on the radio and ignore it,? she said.
She used the music of bands like The Grateful Dead and Bowling for Soup to make her point.
Tucker wrote his essay on freedom and how our veterans fought for America so we could have what we have today.
‘I value it more than anything else in my life,? he said.
Each student winner received a complimentary copy of the anthology where their essays will be featured and a $50 savings bond.
