Officials eye M-15 accident prevention

Two accidents last week on M-15 in Atlas Township had morbid consequences, killing one driver and seriously injuring three others.
According to police reports, there were 21 accidents occuring on M-15 from Atlas Township to Brandon Township during the month of January; 12 in Brandon Township, 8 in Atlas Township, and one in Groveland Township.
It’s possible the accidents could result in the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) taking action on road improvements sooner, said Bill Shreck, MDOT regional spokesman.
‘It depends on the reason for accidents,? said Shreck. ‘If it’s an engineering reason, we will look at it. If it’s an enforcement or education issue, no.?
Widening portions of M-15 to a divided boulevard may take place, but that’s ?10 years down the road,? said Shreck.
