After a long, and not very snowy winter, the Oxford-Brandon Varsity Girls Ski Team ended their season with at least one skiier participating at the state meet.
Oxford High School senior Karen Offer qualified for Monday’s state meet at Boyne Highlands after placing in the top 10 in last week’s regionals at Mt. Holly.
Cheered on by family, friends and coaches, Offer placed 29th in slalom. Her relatively low placing she attributed to some rough spots on the course.
‘A couple of my first runs I got kind of caught up and almost fell,? she said. ‘I lost a lot of time on a couple of them.?
She said gates placed with sharp turns forced her to stop in the course and loose all her speed.
She’s not frustrated, though. She’s qualified for state three times during her high school career and was ‘pretty much trying to have fun and make it through the course.?
‘But every year it’s nerve racking because you never know about your next competition,? she said.
Offer’s tip for younger skiiers with aspirations of making it to states?
‘Always work at it and always take advantage of when you get to train,? she said.
