After opening the season 5-1 in Flint Metro League play, the Varsity Baseball team hit a speed bump this week as they got swept by both Brandon and Fenton.
Two costly errors by Oxford in the seventh inning of game one against Fenton on Thursday, May 6 led to two unearned runs for the Tigers, giving them a 5-3 victory.
Junior Keith Paslean took the loss even though he pitched a complete game and struck out six batters.
Fenton completed the sweep over Oxford with a 6-3 victory in game two.
Junior John Pesta led the way for the Wildcats with two doubles, but Oxford couldn’t get their offense going as they were limited to seven hits throughout the game.
Senior Eric Perry threw four innings and struck out seven, while junior Clayton Spiker pitched the final three innings, only giving up one run.
The struggles for the Wildcats continued against Brandon as they left eight men on base and walked seven batters in their 6-3 loss in game one on Monday, May 10.
The Wildcat defense also committed four errors.
In the second game, the Wildcats blew a 4-0 lead and wound up losing game two to Brandon 6-4.
Sophomore Michael Kitchner hit a three-run double to give the Wildcats the 4-0 lead.
However, Brandon fought their way back in the game, scoring four runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth and sixth inning to steal the game from the Wildcats.
Oxford drops it’s overall record to 11-8-1, while sitting at 5-5 in the FML.
