No grants for now

The Village of Lake Orion will hold off applying for state grants for park improvements, at least until the new recreation master plan is approved.
The draft plan calls for improvements in each of the village parks. The estimated cost of improvements for Green’s Park is $683,000, and $214,000 for a porous parking area at the park. At Meek’s Park, bridge and streambank improvements are estimated at $511,000.
For Green’s Park, a MDNR Trust Fund grant is available, requiring a match of $283,000. For the parking improvements, a MDEQ-Nonpoint Source Program grant would require a match of $107,000.
The Meek’s Park projects could be could be done with another MDEQ grant, requiring $128,000 from the village.
Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel said the village has not yet identified funding sources for the matches.
