Skaters now have more options when it comes to hitting the ice and having some fun.
An ice rink in Bay Court Park off Andersonville is open to ice skaters, and so is a rink in Depot Park.
The rink in Bay Court Park opened on Jan.6. Independence Township Treasurer Pat Kittle said he visited the park bright and early the day it opened.
‘It was a beautiful crisp day,? he said. ‘It’s open and operational.?
The 50-by-80-foot rink is 4,000 square feet and located in front of the Lakeview Room in the park.
Visitors can also take advantage of a warming shelter near the rink, open to help visitors thaw out after the cold fun.
‘A place you can thaw your kiddies out after they been out in the cold,” said Kittle.
There are also restrooms on site, mats for skaters to safely walk on and park benches near the rink.
Open skating at the Bay Court Park rink is during regular park hours on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 p.m.- 9 p.m.
No hockey is allowed on the ice.
‘You are skating at your own risk,? Kittle reminded the public.
The Clarkston Optimist Club also reinstalled its ice rink in Depot Park in December.
Optimist President Tom Middleton said there is no competition between rinks, and he believes there are more than enough people in the area who would like to skate at both. Like Bay Court Park, the rink in Depot Park is skate at your own risk.
Bay Court Park is located at 6790 Andersonville Road. Depot Park is located in downtown Clarkston at 375 Depot Street by Clarkston City Hall.
Attendance to both ice rinks is free.
